House at Bin Tong Park, Singapore

Located along a quiet hillside slope, on approach to the house, the building form plays visually with the surroundings, as if interlocking and terracing with the site context. The thin edged floating roof, metal screens and feature travertine walls provides for a dramatic interplay of light and shadow, giving the building depth – with the interest of tiered private, semi-private and semi-public spaces. The surrounding boundary walls are at times threshold spaces and at others, it disappears, allowing infinite framed views into the surroundings with the main swimming pool acting as a soft-mirrored surface, reflecting the distant tree canopy and the horizon sky. The metal screens and thin trellis roof are not only sun shading and privacy devices, but are design iterations of a tropical screen as if a bamboo leaf canopy.
