The University of Chicago campus is organized in a sequence of quads that gives the institution its remarkable character and sense of integration. Our design for the new Graduate School of Business makes the quad a public room that recalls those qualities and unifies the functions of the School. The architectural treatment of the building reinforces the dialogue between the two main formal themes of the project: the light tracery of the central hall, and more solid character of the perimeter building. The new building recalls those defining qualities and continues the planning tradition of the quad, creating an efficient structure that renews its identity.
