WATG completes Sasakwa Hill Lodge in Tanzania
Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo have completed Sasakwa Hill Lodge at Singita Grumeti Reserves in Tanzania, Africa.
The design challenge was to create a sustainable destination consisting of luxury safari lodges in various locations throughout the private Grumetic Game Reserve. A hilltop lodge in the East African colonial manor home style overlooks the Serengeti plains. The lodge can accommodate up to 30 people, with one to four-bed suites arranged across the seven cottages. Each cottage has its own infinity pool and private gardens.
Sustainability was a key element of the project. Half of all of the project's construction was done by local villagers, so these people were given the opportunity to develop news skills for use on future projects. The project was designed to merge with the environment in that the colours and building heights match the landscape.
The lodge is on nearly 300,000 acres (120,000 hectares) and includes an array of amenities: lounges, library, wine room, billiards room, bar, dining room, retail shop, spa, sports pavilion including archery, tennis pavilion and courts and an equestrian centre.
