Renzo Piano creates gallery for Paul Klee’s home city

The Paul Klee Zentrum art gallery in Berne opened for business in June 2005. The 16,000m² building to house a permanent exhibition was designed by Renzo Piano for client Maurice E. et Martha Müller Foundation, Berne. Piano says, “The idea was to capture the ‘spirit of the sculptor’, working on earth and typography.” Creating homes for artists’ work always draws a lot of interest and this project is no exception. Some say that Klee, known by his students as the ‘Buddha of the Bauhaus’ would have approved, others disagree.
