A giant syringe. Addiction-problem of the big city. Should the architecture to talk about it...

Security fears force re-design

A new design for the tower at the World Trade Centre has been unveiled. The revisions were called for by Governor George Pataki because of security concerns. The West Street Frontage has been moved back to 27m (formerly 7 metres) and the base walls will be reinforced concrete protected with steel and titanium. The footprint has been reduced and is now the same as the original towers at 61metres x 61 metres. The Freedom Tower, will retain the symbolic height of Libeskind’s earlier design. The new construction timetable projects the steel frame rising above street level in 2007 and completion in 2010. Two years later than originally planned.
