Construction start planned for end of 2007

Dutch practice Neutelings Riedijk Architects, have recently won a competition for a New City Hall and Library in Deventer, Holland. The 24,000m² structure blends into the very heart of the old medieval city centre. A new block-like public space is sunk into the ground below the main cupola-shaped element of the building, and houses the library and the service counters of the municipality. The cupola shaped upper structure houses offices for city administration, which enclose a large public atrium where users of the library, service counters and offices meet. The top of the cupola shaped structure is conceived as a panoramic winter garden, a public space for parties and official celebrations. The construction of this €30 million complex is expected to start by the end of 2007
