Chicago architects lead the way in future proofing…

Chicago based Goettsch Partners have designed this unusual 24 floor vertical extension to an existing 33 storey building for insurance client Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. The original building (also designed by Goettsch) is 446 feet high and will grow to 796 feet at a cost of $270 million USD. Accommodations for the additional structure, HVAC and elevator shafts were all in place when the first phase was completed in 1997. The building on prime real estate on the northern edge of Grant Park is scheduled for completion in 2010.
