COOP HIMMELB(L)AU’s radical design proposal for the Los Angeles Unified School District's (LAUSD) new flagship High School on LA's Cultural Corridor is now on site. This 21,204 m², $171.9 million high school will provide courses in music, dance, theatre arts and visual arts. The building will also house a 1000 person capacity theatre that will be open to both students and the public. The design focuses upon a large tower that symbolises the arts within the city. The library is housed in a cone-shaped structure referred to as the ‘Space of Knowledge’. A number of strategically placed circular windows reveal the inner life of the building to passers-by.
