Steel tree house receives more accolades

Joel Sherman of JLS design describes much of the architecture in the Lake Tahoe area as wood cabins with a ‘bear-moose-fish-motif’. In this project Sherman is constantly striving to integrate the building into its surroundings. The downward slope of the site is immediately embraced by a set of five large plaster columns that allow the heart of the building to reside within the tree canopies. This 2,500 ft² residence houses a garage, three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room and two bathrooms. The building’s flat roof defies convention in its area, but can still hold the required 300 pound per ft² snow load. Sherman points out that ‘the snow ends up creating great insulation’.
