Planning consent gives new hope for listed London warehouse

Shield House in Bishopsgate had been empty for 20 years and is on English Heritage’s ‘Buildings at Risk’ register. HCLA carried out a brief feasibility study enabling the client and team to explore future uses and the impact they would have on the building fabric. A series of options were detailed with relative planning, financial and market risks and benefits identified. Although the preferred solution was highly intrusive to the existing building, a series of detailed surveys was commissioned and the results, presented to the planners, were received favourably. Planning consent and listed building consent have now been achieved.
