London based architects McDowell+Benedetti will design a new landmark footbridge
Hull Citybuild announced the winner of the competition for a new landmark opening footbridge in Hull, East Yorkshire to be McDowell+Benedetti.
This new footbridge is designed to link the historic city center on the West Bank to a newly developed area on the East called "The Boom".
It features a world-first, allowing the experience of riding on the bridge while it's opening, and a round-shaped indoor space on the West Bank, which allows various activities such as meetings, exhibitions and cafes.
This unique zoomorphic form and dorsal-like skylight give a strong impression as one huge sculpture, together with its tactile texture of black recycled rubber finish.
It will provide not only pedestrian convenience and a strong visual landmark, but also exciting experiences and Hull's riverscape.
