RMJM’s master plan for satellite city in Egyptian capital gets green light
Leading architectural firm RMJM, in collaboration with Cairo based Space Consultants, have been announced as joint winners of an international design competition to design a new satellite city on the outskirts of Cairo for a population of 800,000. In addition to an extensive residential component, provision was to be made for facilities ranging from universities, colleges and hospitals to extensive retail, leisure and light industry.
The Nile was the principal organiser of settlements throughout the entire length of the country and in this project acts as a central focus and links together the different elements of the city.
Culturally, Egyptians are fond of socialising with family and friends in local parks. Emphasis has been given to this aspect of life with local squares, parks and walkways.
