Grimshaw’s art gallery for the financial institution, Caixa Galicia, is a stunning parabolic form with a full-height atrium that visually and physically ‘slices’ the building in section. The atrium is fully glazed allowing daylight to flood the vertical circulation path, highlighting a sculptural staircase that cantilevers into the space. The main elevation of the gallery is clad with glass panelling with a slender marble interlayer. A transparent holographic screen is suspended on the street facade providing opportunities for projecting artwork and exhibition information. The building, located in the historic city of Coruña, officially opened on 23rd March 2006.
