London based Hamilton Associates have submitted planning proposals for Inonder’s new 25 storey energy-efficient building in Aldgate, central London. The 28,450m2 development will have 287 apartments including affordable housing, together with retail units at ground floor. The main building adopts an irregular rounded corner plan form while at lower levels, new buildings with green roofs extend the existing street frontages and mediate between the new public park and the taller building. The fully glazed corners are suspended from vierendeels at 7 storey intervals, thereby expressing the open aspect of the living spaces within and enhancing the slenderness of the building externally. The top of the tower is crowned by an aerodynamic ‘flying’ wing profile which moderates the roof terrace wind environment, and etches a dramatic new signature onto the city skyline.
