Broadway Malyan, ECADI and Cundall selected as winners of invited competition
Broadway Malyan has been announced as the winning practice in an invited competition for Chengdu Creative Centre. The practice, who worked in collaboration with the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute (ECADI) and Cundall, was selected from a shortlist of five international firms including AS Architecture Studio (France) and HPP Architects (Germany).
Chengdu Creative Centre is a mixed-use venture blending office and retail units with green public spaces, anchored by a 110m-high central tower. This is the first phase in a wider development to create a new urban district in Chengdu: Tianfu New Town. The Broadway Malyan-designed masterplan will act as the gateway to this new district, setting the tone for future developments.
Jeremy Salmon, Main Board Director at Broadway Malyan, said: “This international competition win is testament to our growing reputation in China for delivering schemes that have a real sense of place and establish successful and sustainable centres in growing cities.
“Our expert design team will now work in close partnership with the wider project team to realise the client’s vision and demonstrate that well-designed urban development in China can create sustainable and environmentally-conscious places.”
It is this ‘close partnership’ that aided the win for Broadway Malyan, alongside a clear design vision for the Chengdu Creative Centre. The team has taken into account the city’s position as the western centre of logistics, commerce, finance, science, and technology in China, and has drawn on the site location for inspiration.
This competition was commissioned by the Chengdu Tiantou Real Estate Development Company Limited.
