UNStudio-designed Canaletto Tower takes shape on the waterfront in London's EC1
Construction is well underway on the UNStudio-designed Canaletto tower at the intersection of London’s Islington, Clerkenwell, Shoreditch and City districts. The 31-storey residential structure sports a banded façade that is characteristic of the Dutch design studio, with wide white ribbons wrapping the exterior of the form from top to bottom.
A collection of two- and three-bedroom apartments designed by Martin Goddard of Goddard Littlefair was launched recently at the construction site, with potential buyers invited to tour an onsite show apartment. A double-height penthouse with roof garden is also included in the plans.
The Beaumont Collection of apartments will be situated in the upper portion of the tower while the lower section will host one- and two-bedroom apartments designed for comfort. Prices for these waterfront properties begin at £840,000.
Residents will be given access to a comprehensive concierge service alongside secure underground parking, a swimming pool, gymnasium, entertainment centre, restaurant, and sky terrace on the 24th floor. A variety of public transport links are within easy walking distance in every direction.
Of their design UNStudio, says: “The building façade creates a modelled elevation in which clusters of adjacent floors are grouped together. Using both textured and smooth materials contrasts with the expected contemporariness of a typical high-rise metal construction and lends the façade a residential ‘twist’.”
