Woods Bagot releases new images of Catholic Leadership Centre in Melbourne
New images have been released of the Catholic Leadership Centre designed by architecture studio Woods Bagot in East Melbourne. The development is a blend of new buildings and the adaptive reuse of existing structures to create a modern Professional Learning Centre for teachers and principals within the Catholic Education system.
Woods Bagot have designed three new buildings to support the transformed Celtic Hall, former St John’s Church and St John’s school building, all of which now provide contemporary meeting and teaching venues. The three new volumes are used for larger conferences, pre-function activities, dining, hotel accommodation and additional learning facilities.
The development centres on a landscaped courtyard garden with cloistered verandas, creating a social hub for building users. Peter Korkolis, Architect and Senior Associate at Woods Bagot explains: “Circulation occurs around this space as it becomes a focal point for social interaction, contemplation and a light source to the surrounding buildings.”
Woods Bagot Senior Associate Sue Fenton furthers: “The centre was designed to be flexible, with operable walls and integrated technology allowing for spaces to be used in a number of different configurations. Meanwhile, accommodation in the upper floors of one of the new buildings provides those attending courses, seminars and workshops with somewhere to stay.”
