Transparency and human scale are winning factors in competition for Sailing Center

On February 19 2013, the result of the competition for a new International Sailing Center in Aarhus was announced. The winning team is Entasis, Praksis Architects A/S, Henry Jensen Engineers and Schonherr.

At a larger architectural scale, the Center will be located adjacent to the new volumes being built around the harbor in the coming years. The building will interact with its users through two architectural concepts: transparency and human scale.

Transparency creates the visual contact that strengthens the interaction between people and thereby the premises for a strong sense of community in the Center. The human scale is woven into the powerful and raw construction through warm and tactile materials, furniture, surfaces and spaces for people.

The Center offers a large variety of spaces and meeting places - places where people can meet in informal and natural ways - for example by the water, in the halls, on the terraces, in galleries and in the row of small rooms and benches along the northern façade where the sails of the boats can be seen.
