Hariri Pontarini selected for Windsor Welcome Centre with Amico & Architecttura
A local team of Hariri Pontarini Architects (HPA) with Architecttura and Amico has been selected to design and build a new $8.4m Welcome Centre at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
The winning design envisions a dynamic two-storey pavilion that can be seen from every angle and is accessible from multiple campus routes. Distinguished by a light and gently arcing ribbon of milky glass that will weave its way around the site, the building is intended as a beacon within the landscape that will form a lively backdrop for campus activities.
Of the appointment, HPA Partner, Siamak Hariri commented: “The Welcome Centre marks a transformational shift for the University of Windsor. The selection of our bold design demonstrates a commitment to future growth and development of the school as a place of innovation.”
The Welcome Centre will cater to visitors and administrative staff. The building will house a range of departments including: student admissions and recruitment; alumni affairs and donor communications; the university campaign; public affairs and communications; and alumni and donor records.
Construction is scheduled to start in early April 2014.
