Royal Observatory-Time and Space Project
The Royal Observatory, home to Greenwich Mean Time, is one of the most important historic scientific sites in the world, providing the official starting point for each new day, year and millennium .The Time and Space Project is a £15 million redevelopment which includes a new, state-of-the-art cone shaped planetarium, new galleries and an education centre. The project for the National Maritime Museum, involves restoring and relandscaping some of the existing site. It also provides improved exhibition spaces and public facilities. The ‘cone’ designed by London based architects Allies& Morrison will be inclined at 51.5 degrees (the latitude of London) and point at the pole star. The planetarium will open fully in 2007.
