Rippled facade comprised of 'cloud-like' elements defines J. Mayer. H's latest project

J. Mayer. H und Partner Architekten has unveiled renderings of a new healthcare and residential scheme on a historic hospital site in Dusseldorf, Germany. The project is a 70m-tall mixed-use building with 14 levels dedicated to residential units in a 19-storey tower. These private residences will vary in size and floor plan depending on the location of the given unit.

At the base of the tower - named RKM 740 - will be a commercial medical complex with retail outlets for medical goods plus doctors’ offices and an entire floor dedicated to surgical practices. J. Mayer. H. und Partner Architekten has expressed an intention to redefine the left bank of the Rhine where this project is located, both in terms of use and silhouette.

Arguably the most striking feature of the RKM 740 scheme is its dynamic façade, composed of a series of ‘cloud-shaped’ elements. These jagged edges run in horizontal strips across the exterior of the building, varying in size to further animate its exterior face. Planted terraces and balconies add colour and improve the microclimate for the comfort and enjoyment of building users.
