WAD14 to be held in Shanghai on 12-14 November

Now in its third year, World Architecture Day (WAD) has gone from strength to strength. Starting in 2012 with our inaugural London summit, and following on from 2013’s hugely successful New York conference, we are excited to announce that this year we will be heading to Shanghai, China.

Shanghai has long featured on the architectural stage, with its stunning mix of neo classical architecture sitting side by side with some of the most interesting and progressive buildings to be constructed over the last 20 years.

Our 2013 summit in New York was a hugely successful three days of building tours, speakers from across the globe and workshops held around Manhattan. This year, we intend to continue on this path, bringing you the best of international architecture, the movers and shakers and big players on the world stage, all hosted in one of Asia’s most enigmatic cities.

Last year’s theme of Towards 8 Billion, Housing the Next Generation will this year be carried forward and focus on Towards 8 Billion, Moving the City, with an in-depth look at the transport, infrastructure and architectural problems to be faced in many of the world’s largest cities today, as well as the sectors impacted by transport such as commercial, retail and multimodal hubs.

WAN’s Editor in Chief, Michael Hammond said: “After London and New York, Shanghai seems like a logical progression, but it goes much deeper than that. Shanghai has pushed the boundaries of the modern city in many ways, not least with transport, being the world pioneer in commercial Maglev travel.

“At WAD14 we want to draw on Shanghai’s energy, taking the best of our first two years and adding more; More commercial opportunities, more connections, more inspiration, more debate.”

Our exciting 2014 summit will host 350 international delegates on the 12, 13, 14 of November this year, as well as workshops to be hosted around the city and exclusive building tours of some of Shanghai’s most celebrated buildings.

WAD14 is also proud to announce that for the third year running we are privileged to welcome BAU as our official sponsor, and look forward to continuing our long running partnership with the world-leading architectural trade fair.

Mirko Arend, Exhibition Director at BAU said: "We are honoured to be partner of World Architecture Day 2014 in Shanghai. China is definitely a very interesting and booming architectural market. Therefore from the 08th to 09th July 2014 BAU will have the first ‘BAU Congress China’ in Beijing. With this cooperation BAU and WAN can again support each other in a perfect way."
