Meliá Vienna Hotel to open in Dominique Perrault's glittering Donau City Tower 1

On 26 February 2014 the doors will open to the sleek Meliá Vienna Hotel, occupying 17 storeys of the Donau-City (DC) Tower 1. Designed by French architect Dominique Perrault and local firm Hoffmann-Janz Architekten, DC Tower 1 is one half of a pair of glittering new structures for Vienna, with DC Tower 1 currently holding the title of the tallest building in Austria.

The external form of the 220m-high building has been termed a ‘geometric waterfall’, sporting a single façade finished with angled panels in alternating directions. This dynamic aesthetic has been followed into the interior design in a subtle fashion, Perrault making decorative references to the angular façade in the headboards, bathroom walls and stone tiles.

A Presidential Suite on level 14 can be accessed via a private lift, transporting residents to a 200 sq m space which benefits from 180° views of the city through floor-to-ceiling windows, a home cinema system, infinity bath and double rain shower. Décor within the hotel rooms is kept neutral in hue with a minimalist approach and cutting-edge technology is incorporated throughout.

Meliá Vienna Hotel includes 253 rooms alongside various entertainment facilities. These amenities include a John Harris Fitness Centre & Spa with indoor swimming pool, a rooftop bar with weekend DJ and a restaurant on level 57 with 360° views of Vienna. A floating spiral staircase is a focus point in the lobby, connecting three floors between The Flow restaurant and a ballroom on the first floor.

Meliá’s Executive Vice President André Gerondeau said: “This spectacular landmark in Vienna will play a key role when it comes to our dynamic expansion and further increasing our degree of recognition on the German-speaking market.” This is the first outlet in Austria for the international hotel brand.
