Groundbreaking held for Suzhou Sports Park, including 45-seat stadium, 13,000-seat entertainment arena and running track

Construction is underway at Suzhou Industrial Park in China on a new sports and leisure facility estimated for completion in early 2017. Mott MacDonald provided building services, energy planning and LEED green building consultancy services. GMP were the architects on the project.

The project site contains a number of raised structures with generous amounts of green landscaping. A 45,000-seat stadium is the highlight of the complex with a swooping roof structure and grand staircase on the approach.

This is supported by a 13,000-capacity sports and entertainment arena, a swimming complex designed to host international sporting events, an athletics track and training centre, and a retail mall and hotel complex.

Jie Cheng, Mott MacDonald’s project manager, said: “Suzhou Industrial Park has been developed for the past twenty years as a joint project between the Chinese and Singaporean governments and now hosts many international high technology companies and automotive manufacturers.

"Mott MacDonald has project managed various industrial projects in Suzhou and we are looking forward to this new, exciting development.”
