A. Masow Design Studio to construct cylindrical glass pod house in Kazakhstan

In the centre of a densely wooded forest in Almaty, Kazakhstan is a little clearing with a single 40ft fir tree, its mature branches stretching outwards in a perfectly natural, unstructured form. This is the site for the latest project for A. Masow Design Studio - a sparkling residential scheme for a private client.

Due to complete in 2014, the project is estimated to cost £225,000 in an area where the average home goes on the market for approximately £625,000. As a result the architecture firm has already been approached with requests from three additional private clients keen to procure their own crystalline forest home.

Located in the mountainous region of Almaty, the property will be constructed using a series of metal columns, plasterboard panels, concrete and wooden flooring, and floor-to-ceiling windows for optimum viewing of the wooded area.

Aibek Almasov of A. Masow Design Studio explains: “The client was a businessman at the age of 38 years. His brief was to create a home for a couple; it was to be a place where you could sit with a friend and discuss ideas and philosophise. The house has to be something that can develop your spiritual and creative development.”

The completely open character of the house has raised a few eyebrows already with comments over the basic amenities one expects to find in a home, for example, privacy in the bathroom or sleeping quarters.
