Monochromatic hybrid offices by Wiel Arets Architects near completion in Wallisellen
Construction is nearing completion on a Wiel Arets Architects-designed office block in Wallisellen, Switzerland for Allreal Generalunternehmung AG, Allianz Suisse. The hybrid development incorporates two glistening volumes - one high rise, the other 5 storeys in height - linked by a series of bridges.
Building work is due to complete in October with images provided by the practice showing varying stages of completion. In total the 72,000 sq m facility comprises office units, employee amenities, retail facilities, restaurants and cafes within a glass-rich façade which has been animated in a monochromatic abstract pattern. This pattern is reflected within the buildings through subtly-imprinted ceiling panels.
Visual connections play a large part in the design of the Allianz Headquarters with a generous open staircase rising 72m through the form. Visitors join this staircase at the main entry lobby and follow it up through a number of vertical voids, heightening fluidity and visual links throughout the office floors.
From the exterior it is clear that visual access is important to Wiel Arets Architects. The team has inserted floor-to-ceiling windows across the entire height and breadth of the façade and angled circulation towards and perpendicular to the glass skin to bring the building to life with continuous movement.
Providing a layer of privacy is a computer-controlled curtain to shade the interior spaces and shield those in need of isolation from the outside world. Internally the décor is simple and clean, with the design practice opting for neutrally-hued spaces so that the tenants may put the own stamp on their office units.
