Steelman Partners' Solaire Manila integrated resort opened on Manila Bay to large crowds

Solaire Resort and Casino is a modern hotel and casino structure located along the waterfront of the magnificent Bay City area in Entertainment City, Philippines, designed by Steelman Partners. Phase one of the project, completed in March 2013, includes a five-star hotel with 500 rooms, four VIP villas, a 175,000 sq ft gaming space, ten restaurants and bars, a health club, a conference centre and extensive VIP gaming areas.

The facade of the hotel was designed with a crisp horizontality that provides shaded terraces and protected views. This is contrasted by the undulating articulation and verticality of the hotel tower. These visual and experiential contrasts are rendered most apparent along the porte-cochère as visitors are drawn across the entryway and under the tower.

The style of architecture, bearing the resort’s unique location in mind, appeals to both the local market and entices foreign visitors. All of the design techniques developed provide a five-star experience for both groups. The modern beach-style exterior provides a familiarity for those coming from both west and east. A Las Vegas influence is evident in the casino areas, and the use of Filipino colours and carpet designs situates the resort firmly in the Philippines.

A new and innovative approach was taken in planning the resort layout. A distinctive stratified design was implemented, where each of four market segments had created its own entry/lobby, its own casino with games tailored to the customer, its own restaurants and bars, and its own support space. Steelman Partners has stressed that this does not exist at any other casino in the world.
