Pitched roof of private home in Sweden replaced with triplet of usable volumes

General Architecture, a modest design studio in Sweden, has completed a cleverly crafted addition to a private villa in Stocksund, Stockholm. The scheme takes the form of a triplet of added volumes where the rich dark tones of the copper exterior are drastically contrasted with pure white interiors, bathed in natural sunlight.

These three volumes incorporate a living room, bathroom with walk-in wardrobe, and a bedroom as an addition to the villa below. This grand Stocksund villa is embraced by verdant foliage in a quiet location, enabling residents to enjoy far-reaching views across the picturesque natural landscape through large window panes inserted throughout the extension.

Light pours into the bright white interiors through vast skylights, reducing the residents’ dependency on artificial lighting and therefore cutting financial and energy costs. In replacing the existing pitched roof with a triplet of usable volumes, General Architecture has maximised the active space within the residence while providing stunning views across Stocksund.
