59 homes near Buckingham Palace designed by John McAslan & Georgia Russell

John McAslan + Partners’ Wellington House is a 10-storey building with 59 apartments, located on a triangular site close to Buckingham Palace, a dynamic reinterpretation of the conventional mansion block. The project, for Land Securities, is the result of collaboration with the artist Georgia Russell.

The incised treatment of the Indian sandstone facade, inspired by the flight pattern of birds and of wind flow, creates a striking new building that sits comfortably within a conservation area comprised of buildings of various scales and typologies.

Project Director Kevin Lloyd comments: “Wellington House sits as an interesting and bold addition to the local urban environment whilst incorporating artistic detailing which complements the mansion-block typology of the area. The design of the freestanding block provides a high level of daylight within the apartments and offers impressive views across the capital.”

The freestanding design of the building allows all the apartments to benefit from good daylight, with those on the top floor enjoying superb views across London. 66% of the apartments are provided with outdoor amenity space, whether it be an inset balcony or via terraces at roof level.

The vertical circulation core is located centrally to provide simple, legible access to all apartments. The basement contains parking provision for 19 cars, as well as a cycle space for each apartment.
