Two days remain to raise $30,000 needed to build East River floating pool

Time is running out for a Kickstarter campaign seeking donations to build a floating pool in New York’s East River. Called the ‘+ Pool’ for its shape of a mathematical plus sign, the floating pool will have separate areas for kids, lap swimming, sports and relaxation.

The + Pool has been designed with a tested multi-layer filtration system that removes bacteria and contaminants from the river water to provide clean and safe swimming water for the public to enjoy, flushing 500,000 gallons of water daily. The project designers claim the pool will be ‘as clean if not cleaner’ than other public pools and they aim to keep it free of cost.

To get the project off the ground and literally in to the water, the + Pool creators are looking to raise $250,000 to manufacture a 35ft test facility, which they call the Float Lab. They are offering incentives to anybody who will help them reach this critical milestone by Friday, including naming opportunities for the tiles that will line the pool.

The + Pool has gotten a lot of buzz and the campaign to build the test pool is close to becoming a success. The financial backers helping to reach this goal now number more than 2,500 but the deadline for donations is fast approaching. To get on board with this fascinating project go to the + Pool’s page on Kickstarter to contribute at www.kickstarter.com

A highly effective short film by the trio behind the scheme - Archie, Jeff and Dong - can be viewed here. The team has already garnered backing from major companies and organisations such as Arup, PlayLab and the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance but the only way to get this project off the ground is to secure the necessary $250,000 in financial backing.
