Plans for a new Moscow suburb revealed
London-based McAdam Architects and Hamburg-based
Jan Störmer Partners have revealed plans for a new suburb to help meet Moscow’s growing housing demands.
The first phase of the A101 project, Nikolo Khovanskoye new town, will house 10,500 people in 4,200 residences on disused agricultural land south of Moscow’s ring road. The entire A101 project sprawls over 13 million sq m.
Designed to increase the supply of affordable housing and improve the area’s transport network, Nikolo Khovanskoye will feature three distinct neighbourhoods linked by parks and waterways. The central area will contain the town’s administrative centre, retail and office spaces, as well as medium- to high-density accommodation. The second zone will contain similar housing as well as local retail and social facilities. The third zone will feature low-to medium-density housing such as town houses and duplexes.
A planning application will be submitted later this year and work is expected to commence in early 2010.
