ARCADIS Logos selected for Rio 2016 Olympics construction projects
ARCADIS Logos, the Brazilian subsidiary of the global consultancy and engineering firm ARCADIS, has been selected to provide project and construction management services for the Olympic Park and Village for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Chosen by RioUrbe and Empresa Olímpica Municipal (EOM), the project covers a series of infrastructure projects within the Olympic Village, with construction work due to be completed in early 2016.
With a total of 34 competition venues, the Olympic village project will cover 75 hectares and the ARCADIS Logos scheme will include the development of tennis courts, swimming pool and a velodrome. As part of the project, several support facilities will also be built, including an energy centre and a sewage treatment plant. New leisure and meeting areas will also be constructed, including the Diversity, Beauty, Sustainability, Health and Environment Villages, a waterside park and a commercial and educational centre.
Manoel Antonio Avelino, CEO of ARCADIS Logos, said of the appointment: "We are intent on making the Rio 2016 Olympic Games a memorable event and we are extremely proud to once again act as a key player in delivering another important milestone in the Brazilian infrastructure legacy. This assignment follows on our successful performance in projects related to other upcoming major sports events, like the program management for the 2014 World Cup soccer arenas and our work related to doubling the capacity at Guarulhos Airport. Being part of the 'Olympic team' is a great challenge and honour."
This project forms part of a series of construction schemes currently being carried out in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in preparation for the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games.
