Due to pressure from many architectural groups including the overwhelming support from the WAN global poll, Tokyo’s Nakagin Capsule Tower has got a stay of execution. The tower’s management association has postponed a decision to demolish the building. The Japan institute of Architects and Japan Federation of Architects have submitted a request for the preservation of the tower. The WAN poll, which sought the views of architects in 100 countries and returned a 95% vote in favour of keeping the tower has been used extensively in the campaign as an objective viewpoint. The debate continues and the next few weeks will be crucial for the tower’s survival.
