An exhibition of ten watercolours by Steven Holl is to be exhibited in China

Ten watercolour designs painted by architect Steven Holl will be shown at China International Gallery Exposition’s fifth exhibition in Beijing from April 25th – 28th. New York’s Frederieke Taylor Gallery is to exhibit the pieces which Holl produced whilst working on a number of Chinese projects.

Holl uses watercolours to ‘connect the subjective and the objective’ in his designs and the exhibition offers an intimate insight into Holl’s design creation process. Steven Holl Architects works out of both New York and Beijing offices and the exhibition reflects this collaboration.

Steven Holl states about the watercolor process: “There is a joy in this way of beginning; its inspiring and light, and I feel it’s in my blood. I open my eyes. It’s a new unpredictable day; I have a yearning, and its unappeasable sometimes.”

Two of the projects represented in the exhibition are currently under construction and scheduled for completion later this year: the Linked Hybrid in Beijing - a group of eight towers and 660 geothermal wells linked by public sky-bridges and the Museum of Architecture and Art in Nanjing.
