Cadogan hosts 10th anniversary party for Duke of York ahead of completion
Cadogan Estates gave a pre-completion airing of a new art gallery space in Chelsea, London, to celebrate the 10 year milestone of the Duke of York project. Designed by Paul Davis + Partners the 70,000 sq ft gallery occupies the Grade II Listed headquarters building and a newly built extension to the rear. It will shortly be handed over to the Saatchi team, led by AHMM, for final fit out. The £45m project for the Cadogan Estate has created 15 galleries and visitor facilities within the historic Grade II building, and 3 galleries in an elegant new extension wing.
The art gallery is the latest phase in the extensive Duke of York development at Sloane Square.
Paul Davis + Partners design solution celebrates the existing high ceilings and large, well-proportioned rooms of the old headquarters at the same time as creating a distinctly contemporary space in which to display the Saatchi collection.
Exposed brickwork relieves the ‘white box’ galleries and steel and glass structures contrast and enliven the historic fabric.
Paul Davis + Partners also designed the celebrated Duke of York Square. The square opened ten years ago as a mixed-use development costing €150 million to develop opening up a site inaccessible to the public for 200 years.
