KONE receives 2012 WAN Product of the Year Award at BAU trade fair in Munich
BAU 2013 celebrated the trade fair’s 20th anniversary and its claim to be the World´s Leading Trade Fair for architecture, materials and systems, is backed up by attendance figures. Over 235,000 visitors in just 5 days makes for one incredible show, but this year broke previous records for international visitors, topping 60,000 for the first time, and in terms of exhibitors, Munich’s trade fair centre played host to over 40 different countries.
Among the BAU attendees were influential figures such as Daniel Libeskind, Christoph Ingenhoven, Patrik Schumacher and Ben van Berkel, underlining BAU’s status as the world’s leading gathering of architects. The show covered hot topics for the future of the industry including sustainability and building for life.
As headline sponsor to WAN’s Product of the Year Award, BAU was an excellent platform for the presentation of the winner’s certificate. Following on from the announcement of KONE’s WAN AWARD win in November for the MonoSpace 500 elevator, Ari Lehtoranta, the company’s Head of Customer Experiences and KONE Central and Northern Europe, stated in his acceptance speech: “The KONE MonoSpace 500 is based on years of intensive research on customer needs and the possibilities of new technology. We are proud to further improve our offering and are honoured to receive this recognition for our work to improve the eco-efficiency and sustainability of our solutions.”
Michael Hammond, WAN’s Editor in Chief and Chair of the WAN AWARDS comments: ‘We are delighted for KONE to receive the winning prize for one of WAN’s most popular awards, up against stiff competition and deservedly impressing such a prestigious judging panel.
Fending off competition from FAKRO’s balcony window, the Escea DX1500 gas fireplace and the Rolflex compact industrial door, the MonoSpace 500 impressed WAN’s expert panel and there was a general consensus that KONE had demonstrated superior innovation in the lift industry. The lift holds a Class A rating under the VDI 4707 classification and is an impressive 35% more energy efficient than KONE’s current market leading product. In additional to this, over 90% of the elevator can be recycled at the end of its lifespan.
WAN runs one of the world’s largest award programmes with a staggering 1,350 submissions in 2012 from 72 countries. This prestigious award is tough both to win and judge however with the 2012 programme celebrating innovation, eco credentials and evolution, the MonoSpace 500 was a worthy winner, Brendon Moss of Land Securities asserting that KONE is ‘a clear leader in terms of innovation and eco credentials’.
BAU have been a valued partner of World Architecture News since 2009 and WAN are delighted to announce that this partnership will continue throughout 2013. BAU’s 2015 trade fair is set to be held from 19-24 January.
