Rem Koolhaas to curate Venice Biennale '14
At a meeting of the Board of the Biennale di Venezia it was announced that OMA founder Rem Koolhaas will curate the 2014 International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. Speaking on the official announcement, Koolhaas commented: “We want to give a new look to the basic elements of architecture - used by any architect, anywhere and at any time - to see if we can find something new.”
Little information has been released at this time, however President of the Biennale di Venezia Paolo Baratta has said of the Board’s decision: “The exhibitions of the Architecture Biennale have gradually grown in importance over the world and it is significant that this next Biennale will engage Rem Koolhaas, one of the greatest personalities of the architects of our time.”
The 13th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia in 2012 was curated by established architect David Chipperfield under the theme ‘Common Ground’. The theme for the 2014 exhibition by Rem Koolhaas has not been announced yet. WAN’s Elena Collins visited Venice in summer 2012 to report on La Biennale di Venezia. The 14th International Architecture Exhibition will be held Saturday 7 June to Sunday 23 November 2014 at the Giardini and Arsenale venues.
