Humble holiday home realised in Quebec by Blouin Tardif Architecture-Environnement

This stunning little cabin by Canadian practice Blouin Tardif Architecture-Environnement is nestled in the hills of Bromont, Quebec. Totalling 2,700 sq m, the modest residence provides the perfect getaway holiday home for its private residents with a series of wide windows which open the interior space to the picturesque views beyond.

Residence Bromont is located at the end of a winding track and is solitary in its plot, offering the owners perfect peace and quiet. The architects have ensured that the house speaks to its local environment by using natural materials for the build which can be noted in the external wooden cladding and cedar cathedral ceiling within.

Blouin Tardif Architecture-Environnement say of their design: “The challenge consisted of the vernacular architecture of Evoking the Eastern Townships while affirming the project’s contemporary nature and integrating it into the landscape with minimal impact.”

Cantilevering window boxes extend outwards from the main volume of the house, creating intimate spaces from which to read, dine, converse or simply view the undulating, forested scenery beyond, ‘projecting the occupants into the landscape’.

Care has been taken to orientate the residence so that it catches optimum levels of sun the cold winter months and remains sheltered from the harsh glare in summer with the lower level opened out to the south.
