MQA designs new headquarters for ECGC in Mumbai

The main aim whilst conceptualising this project was to break all the shackles and create not just a structure that functions as a office building but a timeless piece of art - a sculpture that redefines how a government building should look like - a symbol of not just modern architecture but a symbol of rapidly developing modern India. The architects let their imagination run wild, just to leave the ordinary far behind.

The aim was to come up with the design of an ultramodern iconic office structure with the perfect amalgamation of socio economic needs with futuristic approach. The project also aims to create environment friendly, energy-efficient building by effectively managing natural resources. This entails passively and actively harnessing solar energy and using materials which, in their manufacture, application and disposal, do the least possible damage to the 'free resources' such as water, ground and air.

The location of this development for ECGC of India Limited is so brilliant in Andheri (East), Mumbai that it can be easily accessed by foot from both the Andheri railway station and the Western Express Highway, both of which can be easily termed as the lifelines on which Mumbai is totally dependent on for its day to day working. The Mumbai Airport is only 3.5 kms. away from our site. The proposed Versova-Ghatkopar Metro Rail Corridor falls on the MV road which is the main access road for our site. There is also a bus stop next to the site. The location of this development thus becomes one of the most ideal ones available in Mumbai. One of the other key factors that makes this location so desirable is the amount of greenery it offers making it an oasis in the concrete jungle.

Since the site is a green oasis amidst an urban concrete jungle, we refrained from cutting of trees to retain the sanctity of the site. Although some of the trees which had to be cut down to make the project feasible are being transplanted at the periphery of the site thus creating a buffer from the development adjoining the site.

With the breathtaking view of landscapes all around, almost all offices also enjoy direct sunlight from the atrium. The sunlight works as the cosmic energy which helps in increasing efficiency and creating the perfect environment for the business to grow and flourish. The complex is also decked up with an ultra modern club providing facilities like gymnasium, club house, indoor games, etc. So while enjoying the global identity stature, one will simultaneously have a delightful life.

Intricately designed plazas flowing through the atrium along with the landscape on site create a visual connectivity. The Site is naturally aligned across the north south direction. Lush landscape with the southwest wind flow helps in creating a cool atmosphere thus reducing energy wastage. Retention of existing trees create a subtle and cool environment throughout the site. Water permeable landscape features reduce heating effect.

Open plan enables air flow throughout the spaces. The skylight feature provides natural light inside the offices and the intelligent facade glass resists the heat. The terrace gardens keep the environment more oxygenated. It offers best office space that will globalise the corporate identity and take the business to soaring heights of success.
