Gensler is sprucing up the 32-story tower AT&T Center
The comprehensive effort to reposition the tallest tower in Los Angeles’s South Park neighborhood resulted not only in a brightly polished building, but a more energy-efficient property without costly structural upgrades.
A new curtain wall of painted metal panels, suspended from the existing building skin, created shading advantages that reduce the building’s energy consumption. AT&T Center will be submitted for LEED Gold certification in the USGBC’s existing building designation.
In addition to the energy-saving benefits, the new façade gives the building a more contemporary look. Other work on the building includes a new 6,000-square-foot ground-level restaurant space at Olive and 12th streets. Outdoor dining and landscaped perimeters will promote pedestrian interaction with the building. The 10,000-square-foot lobby will get a new look, as well.
The top of the building will be transformed into a glowing crown that will serve as a beacon from Downtown’s highway boundaries announcing Los Angeles’s new 24-hour community.
