Engineering consultancy Grontmij acquires Whitelaw Turkington

70 strong landscape practice, Whitelaw Turkington, has been acquired by Dutch engineering consultancy Grontmij. In the deal, Whitelaw Turkington retains its name, identity and high-quality design ethos within the Grontmij Group working alongside their existing network of landscape architects throughout Northern Europe.

With headquarters in Kennington, South London and a regional office in Leeds, Whitelaw Turkington will extend Grontmij’s existing capabilities in regeneration and development to include landscape design and contract administration, site planning, landscape masterplanning, urban design and community enabling while strengthening services in environmental assessment and complementing the group’s international planning and design capabilities.

Whitelaw Turkington has been engaged in a number of high-profile landscape design initiatives in the past year, including a £3.3m contract from the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham for the urban remodelling of Shepherd’s Bush Common and the design of Peninsula Square which marks the entrance to The O2, the former Millennium Dome. The firm has a wide portfolio which includes including commercial and residential development, education, healthcare, leisure development, urban regeneration, parks and open spaces.

The acquisition comes at an important time in the growth of the London and Leeds based practice, bringing substantial management support and opportunities to engage clients in new market sectors.

Lindsey Whitelaw, CEO, Whitelaw Turkington commented: “The benefits of joining forces with Grontmij are substantial. Whitelaw Turkington has the security and stability of one of the largest engineering firms in Europe, which will enable us to offer Grontmij’s own clients with exemplary landscape consultancy services, explore new opportunities for growth and innovate in ways we could not previously consider.”
