Rosales + Partners completes dual arch bridge in Columbus, Ohio
This bridge concept consists of opposing twin steel arches. The bridge is designed to relate to the family of arch bridges that currently cross the Scioto River in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The concept reinterprets the conventional arch design with a twist.
Its unique shape is special given the configuration of the S-shape alignment and its skewed location in relation to the river shoreline. The dynamic, inclined arches which visually balance each other are elegant and streamlined.
The arches have a single sculpted pier in the water from which both arches will spring. The span of each arch is 350’ (107m) with a height of approximately 60’ (18m) above mean high water.
The bridge will have an area at the centre of the river that will be completely open, offering unencumbered views of downtown and environs. This bridge will become an asset to the community, merging the past and future into a new synthesis that will symbolise the evolving nature of the City of Columbus.
