ATP N+M Frankfurt have designed Tonnies' new headquarters, with an emphasis on green architecture and a corporate feel
ATP N+M Frankfurt have completed the new corporate headquarters for Administration and Social Building of Tonnies, one of Germany’s largest food retail companies in Rheda-Wiedenbruck, Nordhein- Westfalen.
Fronted by project leader Klaus Schmidt, the new multifunctional administration building is equipped with facilities such as new social area and changing facilities, for up to 5,000 employees. The project has redeveloped access to the site, and will include spacious training and meeting rooms, childcare facilities and a fitness centre.
The constant expansion of Tonnies made it important for the company to move its administrative operations and restructure its social facilities. The new entrance, administration and social building is located in a prominent location on the Tonnies production site at Rheda-Wiedenbrück.
ATP N+M have called their venture a ‘Clean and Green’ project, which places a great emphasis on sustainability and minimising the use of resources. They have incorporated 35 energy wells, which contain a total of 7,000 geothermal probes. Functioning alongside a heat pump system, these probes make a significant contribution to climatic control, through the supply of heating and cooling in the building. This will lead to a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions when compared with a building which uses air-conditioning and conventional heating.
With a total area of 17,400 sq m, the project has a clear cubic form, with materials which complement and co-exist with its surroundings. The details in the facade reflect the functional and business-like nature of the building, whilst leaving a statement and impressive building which stands out within its location. The project has received an award in the 'best workplace' category for innovative office architecture as part of the 6th AIT Office Architecture Platform.
