STARH Stanislavov architects complete two private residences in Varna, Bulgaria
Doctor's House
This detached house is situated in a place called 'Akchelar' near the town of Varna. It is built on top of a hill and has a panoramic view of the whole town through an angle of 180 degrees. The building is designed with three floors. It faces south and its rear part is semi-subterranean. A study, summer kitchen and other premises are situated in this basement area. The main entrance facing north is at ground level. The day zone is found on that level and the night zone on the next floor where one can find three bedrooms equipped with en-suite bathrooms. The architecture of the building is of a minimalist design. One distinctive element is the curved dual-level roof.
Edge House
The Edge house is situated in a suburban area near the city of Varna within a forest environment adjacent to the sea. The house is meant for seasonal occupation by the client - a young family. Functionally the building is split into two levels, the first of which consists of a large living room, dining room and a kitchen with storage space. Via a single run stairway, the first floor is connected to the three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms on the second floor. All of the rooms are oriented south, towards the sea. A large curtain wall ensures a good link between the space inside and the outside world. The shape of the building is progressive and dynamic. The combination of bare concrete and glass underlines the originality of the architecture and contributes to the longevity of the house.
