does anyone else recognize an uncanny resemblance of the entrance lobby space to the original wtc lobbies? the soaring volume, the figured marble, the striped flooring? put a purple carpet down between those floor strips and we'd be right back in time... but sadly, the original spaces were far better- open to the world, and not lit thru those mean gun slot clerestories... no matter how it's "decorated", that fortress of a base is serving as the real memorial to terrorism...

Port Authority and Durst Organization release glittering images of 1WTC in NYC

The first office tower to rise from the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan, One World Trade Center has been celebrated recently through the release of thirteen new renderings released by The Port Authority and Durst Organization.

Whetting the appetites of architects, engineers and developers the world over, these glossy images demonstrate the immensity of scale that Skidmore, Owings and Merrill are working with in New York. When completed in spring 2014, the building will reach 1,776 ft in height and offer 3 million sq ft of occupiable space.

55% of the tower has already been leased, with publishing giant Condé Nast taking 1.2 million sq ft over 25 floors, Vantone China Center leasing 190,000 sq ft and federal General Services Administration taking 270,000 sq ft.

The thirteen new images show several design changes, including the removal of the outer casing on the spire at the top and the introduction of a series of glass fins across the façade at the building's base instead of the flush face that was originally proposed.
