Atkins Shanghai office has been awarded a landmark building complex in the Chinese city of Chengdu.

Located in Chengdu, one of China’s biggest cities with a population of 6 million people, the project comprises three towers with a five star hotel, an apartment complex, and an office tower. The design is themed around a crystalline form split into three, creating a grand gateway and new public space at its heart. The main entrance to the complex is marked by a crystalline canopy hanging over a podium at the base of the hotel and apartment towers. Combined the three 160 metre high towers provide 200,000 square metres of space. Central to the residential area is a 550 room Hilton hotel, and an apartment, As well as 80,000 square metres for office space. The complex will sit on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in Central China. The central and western areas of the country have become the focus of national government investment aimed at balancing development on the country’s western seaboard. Work is currently under way in the Shanghai office to develop the competition winning project. Construction work is due to being at the end of 2008.
