This is an interesting development. Its high time we started looking at harnessing the beauty of this region.
The very fact its designed to be sustainable makes it all worth it!
Will be interesting to follow through to completion. When is the construction kick off time?

Studio Seilern design private holiday residence with emphasis on sustainability

Studio Seilern Architects are working on a new project in Nigeria - Lekki Beach House - which will be a private holiday residence on the beaches east of Lagos city. The London-based creative practice has a global portfolio of work with projects in the UK, Europe and Africa. Lekki Beach House was designed by the Principal of Studio Seilern, Christina Seilern, and aims for a zero-carbon construction.

An ambitious plan, Studio Seilern hope to achieve this sustainable design by using ocean water for cooling, as well as solar and wind for self-sustaining power. The floating design of the roof, which is arched like a bow and arrow, is made of timber lemellas and provides efficient shade for the home.

Measuring 65m x 30m, it still allows good visibility and allows adequate light to filter through the building. Cables and timber trusses are attached to the floating lamellas which act as a support for the structure, creating a column-free space beneath, where inhabitants can socialise and entertain.

The structure in its entirety will sit on a raised platform which is designed with the intention of providing the optimum view. Extensive views of the sea and beautiful green landscape can be viewed from this social area, and stairs provide access to the house. These stairs are a key security feature, as they can be drawn back to the house like a drawbridge at night-time.

The property will boast a bar, winery, gym, a media entertainment room, as well as two wings which contain bedrooms. An impressive spiral staircase will be a focal point of the house, which carries visitors to the heart of the residence, connecting the tall living space to the first floor and roof. The infinity pool outside will join the building to the sea in an aesthetically-pleasing manner.

The form of the building is reminiscent of its surroundings; curved like the ocean waves and swaying palm trees, creating a tranquil and soothing environment.
