Pioneering RF50 Rainscreen panels sparkle at world famous Titanic Signature Building
Clever engineering to make a complex geometrical façade achievable with only 60 panel configurations, ahead of time and on budget.
Architectural façade manufacturing specialists Spanwall collaborated closely with the architects from conception through to engineered solution for panels and fixing system to give this iconic building its stunning and unique exterior.
Over 30 prototypes were prepared and refined in a detailed collaborative process involving the architect's design team and Spanwall's team of design engineers.
Spanwall's RF 50 system was customised for this application in anodised aluminium and laser cut, routered and folded into 60 permutations which were then secret fixed using Spanwall's RF 50 aluminium support rail system. This installation of 6200sq metres created a patina which reflects the many different nautural lighting effects of the dockside environment and are contextually relevant as the facade represent the bow of the Titanic liner and are the height of the ship from sea level on what is the largest Titanic visitor's centre in the world.
Spanwall's entire panel and fixing system is fully recyclable so delivered fully on the scheme's sustainability criteria.
Spanwall's RF 50 panel system has also been customized for other iconic applications including the Kensington Oval World Cup cricket stadium Barbados, Terremark's Data Centre at Scipol Airport Amsterdam and on British Airways' World Cargo Building at Heathrow which had the unique adaptation of Spanwall stealth panels which rendered the massive structure invisible to radar.
The Titanic Belfast contract was completed in time for the centenary of the ship's foundering on 14th April 2012.
