Spanish infrastructure company complete third stadia in Poland costing $660m

FCC has recently completed three of the stadia in Poland, a construction and refurbishment project costing €600 million over three years, involving more than 3,000 people. The Spanish infrastructure company built the Warsaw National Stadium, which hosted the inaugural match between Poland and Greece, the PGA Arena in Gdansk, where the Spanish team was based in the first phase of the tournament, and the Municipal Stadium in Pozna, which hosted the match between Italy and Croatia.

The architecture of the PGA Arena in Gdansk, seating 42,000 spectators, is symbolic of a shimmering, oversized, golden-yellow piece of amber. The 45,000 sq m polycarbonate plates covering the Euro 2012 arena light up in six different hues ranging from white to yellow and gold. The stadium was designed by the RKW Rhode Kellermann Wawrowsky Architecture + Urban Planning team of architects.

FCC and Alpine have extensive experience building iconic stadia around the world. The Group's most notable projects include the Allianz Arena, which hosted the inaugural game of the 2006 World Cup and, more recently, the final of the Champion's League between the home team and Chelsea. It also built the Innsbruck, Salzburg and Klagenfurt stadiums in Austria for the European Football Championship, hosted by Austria in 2008, when Spain won this tournament for the first time.

Other stadia built by FCC include Cornellà-El Prat, home to R.C.D. Español, which was named sports installation of the year in 2010, Real Madrid's training complex in Valdebebas, Son Moix for Real Mallorca and the Ramón de Carranza stadium in Cadiz. It has also refurbished the Santiago Bernabéu (Real Madrid), Camp Nou (F.C. Barcelona) and Vicente Calderón (Atlético de Madrid) stadia.
