Autodesk BIM 360 officially launched

This week, design software expert Autodesk released its long-awaited Autodesk BIM 360. The innovative new software will enable architects, engineers and contractors to communicate efficiently and effectively from different geographical locations using cloud technology, reducing protracted alteration times and thus lowering costs.

Autodesk BIM 360 will work in connection with Autodesk Building Design Suite and Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite and although is only currently available in English, options for a number of languages are soon to be launched. BIM is an intelligent 3D model-based process that provides insight for creating and managing building and civil infrastructure projects.

Amar Hanspal, Autodesk Senior Vice President, details: “Cloud-connected workflows are giving our customers worldwide a better way to work with colleagues across their organisations and with business partners, clients and stakeholders. Autodesk BIM 360, the next generation of BIM, will revolutionise the way building and infrastructure owners, designers, engineers and contractors create, share and use project information.”

The expansion of this integral part of Autodesk is an extension of Autodesk 360, a cloud-based platform that the company launched in September 2011 which is already being utilised by 9 million users. Autodesk 360 was a result of a partnership between Autodesk and Vela Systems, a cloud and mobile field management software for the construction industry.

Success stories from Autodesk BIM 360 are already coming in, with Keith Warren, Virtual Design Technology Manager at VTN Consulting, explaining: “Using Autodesk BIM 360 with Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite, we have been able to share our early design concepts to better evaluate feasibility on our infrastructure projects. This has been a great addition to what we can already do with our Autodesk products and has extended our ability to share even the largest models more efficiently with remote teams.”
